Onika Maraj, also known as the infamous Harajuku Barbie/Nicki Minaj, is leaving her 4-inch-heel footprint on the runway of hip-hop. Recently featured in Paper Magazine, she goes on to explain the birth of her style and how she made it thus far. She mentions that her syllabic accents, voices, and characters erupted in an unusual way - by mistake. Minaj says,

"It happened like a lot of things I do - as a mistake. Like the freegin' clip in my hair in the 'My Chick Bad' video with Ludacris. My hairdresser was curling one side and using a clip to hold my hair. I was like, 'Leave it.' They all looked at me like I was insane -- but that's something I do. It's the same thing with my cadences: I'm probably running out of breath or something crazy, and it's like, 'This is not going to work.' But then I'm like, 'Let me listen,' and it winds up being magical and I just keep it and I'm like, 'Yeah, I love it.'"

Her fashion sense is even more out-of-the-box. Not only has she developed her music style, but her choice of clothing as well. The New York Times titled her "the Cindy Sherman of rap," after all. Minaj says, "it's more than a pose though - it's fashion as a pillar of hip-hop. My style is hip-hop meets couture meets crazed lunatic...um yeah." It's pretty self explanatory.

Pink Friday, her upcoming album set to release in November, is her 'heart and soul.' Every relationship that she has ever been in will come through the core of this album, she explains.

"I'm going to be in Tokyo, Paris--I'm going to go everywhere you can imagine. I'm going to own London. I mean, the sky's the limit and you watch what I say. I refuse to lose. I don't know how to lose."

In recent news, Young Jeezy was recently shooting his new anthem Jizzle when parents approached him expressing their children's need for school supplies. As many already know, Jeezy is very supportive of the community and shows his dedication often. He purchased plenty of backpacks filled with pencils, pens, calculators, thumbdrives, notebooks, etc. and donated them to the children. He even gave the parents cell phones and money to help pay bills. Now that's love! The Pepper Zoo tips our hats to Jeezy for supporting the community, as always.

Dr. Dre said that the last beat that floored him was “All About the Benjamins.” How does that make you feel?
It’s humbling. I was in the studio with Dre the other day. He started working on a record for me. Watching him as a producer is watching greatness. We had a lot of similar traits. It was like looking in the mirror. He would ask questions like, “How you feel about this?” People don’t really understand true producers want to know how you feel about things. We are some of the most observant people on the planet.

What happened during the Martin Bashir interview on Nightline?
There were times in the interview when I had to give him an ultimatum. The questions weren’t being handled the right way. In hindsight, when I saw him I shouldn’t had done the interview because I know the style of interview that he does . . . The whole thing about giving a Maybach to my son, that’s really like a racist question. You don’t ask White people what they buy their kids. And they buy ‘em Porsches and convertible Bentleys and it ain’t no question. It’s really a racist question and put things back in perspective with money and the way that people still look at you. And I’m not saying that consciously he’s a racist. But he probably don’t even realize that he would not ask Steve Jobs that. He would be like Steve Jobs has that money and that’s the gift his kid is supposed to get.

Are the comments from Lil’ Kim about Nicki disheartening?
When I heard her say what she said, it didn’t really affect me. I didn’t get mad at her or anything like that. I knew how she felt. I ain’t agree with it. But also I know the motivation. I know that people say, “Oh, he’s trying to get a new Lil’ Kim.”  I guess people will see in time. Yeah, Nicki’s had flavored wigs on, but besides that it ain’t even the same approach to the writing.

Don't be alarmed. Russell Simmons' assistant was not harmed in this incident; however, she was part of a PETA demonstration for the unethical treatment of animals. Simone Reyes was one of three volunteers, who was wrapped like a piece of meat and placed in the middle of Times Square. She braved the 90-degree heat with efforts to raise awareness for vegetarianism. PETA's argument was that animals are just like humans in the sense that they live and breathe also. When asked what their goal was, a PETA volunteer exclaimed,

"To raise some awareness about the cruelty surrounding the meat and dairy industry, and hopefully turn a few people 'veg!'" "We are challenging people to really think about what 'meat' is," says PETA senior campaigner Ashley Byrne. "When you eat flesh, you're eating the corpse of an abused animal who did not want to die. We're encouraging kind consumers to try going vegan."

Pharell Williams, entrepreneur and music producer, has done it again. Not only is he a rapper, producer, and owner of Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream, he is a furniture designer! His friendship with Parisian gallery owner Emmanuel Perrotin, has allowed him to expand on further aspirations in areas of artistic ability. Williams' first line of furniture was inspired by Love and a scultpure in collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami; however, this second line shifted more towards war inspiration.
